Saber Guild: Empire Temple attended five different events around the New York City area on May 4th 2017 from 7am to 10pm. In what was the busiest day in Empire Temple history, dedicated members and friends from the Rebel Legion and the Mandalorian Mercs made sure that the people around NYC got all the Star Wars they could handle.
The day began when members were noticed practicing their fights by Greg T of The Elvis Duran Z100 Morning Show. He showed up and started giving a play by play of the fight live on the morning show! Listen to the segment here, starting at 39 minutes in. It wasn’t long before Greg T got in on the fun and remembered working with Master Goodwén at last year’s Play Faire. After hearing about what Empire Temple does and why we do it Z100 took up a small collection and made an undisclosed donation to St. Mary’s hospital and for that we thank them.
Following the brief segment with Greg T, it was time to head up to iHeartRadio to live stream a short training segment with some of the staff members. Broadcasting to their 7,000,000 FaceBook fans, Master Koda led a 20-minute lightsaber training and talked about the charitable work that Saber Guild does. View Video Here.
The day didn’t slow down from there. A small team of Jedi and Sith visited the NYC offices of Spotify to do a lightsaber training. Spotify made a charitable donation to St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital and treated twenty members of their staff to the one of a kind training that Empire Temple is known for.
Meanwhile, across town, Empire Temple’s Local Director met up with members of Rebel Legion and The 501st to make a quick visit to NYU Langone Medical Center. Over the course of an hour members of the LFL costuming community met with dozens of kids by making personal room visits and talking with the children at the center. Many of the children were very happy to see them, and were very open to talking about Star Wars with their favorite characters.
The day was half over but there were still two stops to make, and Saber Guild headed over to SquareSpace, who also made a donation to St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital to have them come and train their staff. After a truly fun and inspiring training, the final stop of the day was Battery Park to do what Saber Guild does best and they put on a small show for the kids of the Lower West Side. Members of Empire Temple performed their kids show Attack on the Temple, while members of Rebel Legion and the Mandalorian Mercs took pictures with the crowd. After the show all the members of the LFL costumed community gathered for dinner to celebrate a day of smiles, fun, hard work, charity, and Star Wars. This May the 4th was amazing and between raising over $1000 for St. Mary’s and spending the day with our friends we could not have asked for anything better.
